Winter Beauty

12/23/12
Whew!  I can't believe it has been a month since I last posted.  I do not recommend buying and renovating a house during the holiday season.  I have had to make too many decisions this last month about flooring, lighting, appliances, fencing, doors, etc.  And then to have to make gift decisions not only about Christmas, but also three family birthdays has made me feel like a zombie with a mind of melting jello.

Now I have only a fireplace redo to decide on and then a move into the house in three weeks.  I am thankful for Christmas eve and Christmas day when all I'll do is spend time with family.

I have managed to spend a half hour each day walking the dog and these few photos are of winter beauty I observed on our walks.  I don't know what these berries are in the first photo.

These are seed pods from a Rose of Sharon at the woods edge.

This is winter beauty on my kitchen table.  I bought this at the local grocery.  I hope I have time to post at least once more before we move to tell you about the bulbs I have already planted at the new house.  Merry Christmas to all.

  1. The blooming red flowers bring some cheer to winter in your place. Now that the renovation is finally done, you can look forward to a new home, new beginnings. Merry Christmas to you and family!

  2. Merry Christmas to you, too! I am starting a garden club in Jan. if you are interested. I highly doubt we'll meet til March and the 'club', if I dare call it that, will be very loosely organized. Really, it's just a bunch of noVa gardeners hanging out occasionally. I'll be posting about it Jan 5. I hope you get a break to unzombify yourself. :o)

    1. I am interested in the garden club. Hope to join you after the move. Maybe by March I won't be a zombie anymore.

  3. Congratulations on your new home! I just read your previous post on the planting around your new home. It looks like you will have lots of space for flower and vegetable gardens. I think you have a nice collection of plants and wonderful trees already, but the addition of the bulbs will be so nice to see come in each year.

Keep the photos coming, I love to see renovations and the plant photos, of course will be my favorites. VA is such a beautiful state; my husband is from there and has family in many parts of the state.

    1. Thanks, Carla. We have almost too much space in our new yard. It might get to be overwhelming. We have had a lot of surprises and setbacks in our renovation of this older home. Can't wait till its done.
